The Inside Scoop on Scoop B: An Episode God Knew I Needed

Updated: Apr 28

I've been sitting on a few things for a minute but one thing I've been excited to drop yet also hesitant was this specific podcast episode with Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson. Reason being is that it honestly meant so much to me and it ignited a fire in me that I thought had been dead & gone a long time ago. For those of you who don't watch basketball, Scoop B is an NBA Insider and Sports Analyst on Bally Sports Network. Talking to him made me realize that a part of me was missing and it always has been.

Let's get a little personal here and rewind back to my Seton Hall days where I was an intern for NFL Radio at Sirius XM. While I was in college, I was not only in a domestic violence relationship but I was also sleeping in the car and suffering mentally and physically. Now let's just make it clear that those of you who already know my story know that this is not a call for sympathy but for inspiration and motivation. I opted out of the sports industry because every time I opened my mouth to discuss sports, whether professionally or just kicking it at the bar - I would get my ass beat that very same day. Imagine being physically beaten for doing what you love. Imagine an insecure, weak coward putting his hands on you because you're thriving in a male dominated industry. Imagine losing that internship after showing up late with busted lips and knots on your head. I could have sworn I had it made as soon as I got accepted into the NFL program but that was not the path that God wanted me on at the time and quite frankly, I am exactly where I need to be.

From offering my services for free just to get my foot back in the game, to God taking me away from that situation and elevating me to a paid position of Sports Editor at We Are Jersey Magazine with full creative freedom... I just had to share this very special episode with you all. For those who have been following my journey for a while, you all knew that sports had a very special place in my heart and I haven't allowed myself to fall back in love with the industry since. But now, I'm cool with being uncomfortable. Thank you for being patient with me throughout my "ghosting stages" but I promise to be a lot more consistent and to stay focused on the mission at hand. Your purpose is literally what you love to do. Change lives with your passion.

So join me in this conversation with Scoop B as he takes us through his journey of becoming one of the most notable sports broadcasters from Jersey.

Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson is one of the most respected NBA Insiders in the business. He has been working in sports media with over 20 years under his belt and has covered everything from the NBA to college football. The New Jersey native joined Bally Sports Network as a TV Analyst, where he provides expert commentary on all things basketball.

In the meantime and in-between time prepping for the season, he also started his non-profit organization titled "Scoop B Village" in 2021. The [Scoop B] Village is a 501(c)3 mentorship organization that provides kids with access to educational programming outside of the traditional classroom setting. The organization's goal is to encourage young people to develop healthy relationships with their education and also learn invaluable skills in media.
